Transfer News: Atalanta in contention to sign Man United ace Amad Diallo on loan

Atalanta are trying to make a late swoop for Manchester United ace Amad Diallo

According to Tutto Atalanta (h/t Sport Witness), Atalanta are trying to make a late move for Manchester United winger Amad Diallo.

Diallo, who was sold by Atalanta for £37.2million to the Red Devils last year, is now on the verge of completing a loan move with Sheffield United keen on signing the player.

While that was the case, things have taken a turn now and Gian Piero Gasperini has ‘requested the return of Amad Diallo on loan’ as a ‘last-minute operation’, according to Tutto Atalanta (h/t Sport Witness).

Diallo failed to nail down a spot in the club’s starting lineup last season but he did manage to score a crucial goal in United’s 1st leg against AC Milan in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Europa League. All in all, Diallo only managed eight senior team appearances for United as he racked up a mere 263 minutes.

Moreover, United have strengthened in attack this summer as they signed long-term target Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund, who like Diallo, plays on the right-wing. Thus, Diallo’s game-time will only be limited this season and thus the Red Devils want to send the Ivorian to a club that can guarantee him first-team experience.

In terms of Diallo’s development, a move back to Atalanta could work well for the 19-year-old as he already knows the ‘working methods’ of the club while the Italian outfit could also provide the youngster with the prospect of Champions League football.

Sheffield United, on the other hand, can only give the player first-team experience in the Championship, which might not be as thrilling a prospect for Diallo considering it’s a second-tier league.

While there is no certainty on which club the Ivorian will join this summer, he could definitely benefit from some consistent game-time, which in turn, could serve him well to compete for a spot in United’s squad in the years to come.
