Manchester United receive boost as Dean Henderson returns to training
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson has started ‘light’ training this week after the 24-year-old was diagnosed with Covid-19 nearly 4 weeks ago.
Henderson, who was selected for the Euros with England, had to withdraw from the squad after he suffered a hip injury in training. The shot-stopper recovered from it in the space of two-three weeks and returned to pre-season training with Manchester United.
However, the Englishman contracted Covid-19 early into pre-season training, courtesy of which he missed the club’s first two pre-season games against Derby County and Queens Park Rangers.
Although the player tested negative later, he was still suffering from the symptoms and was unable to travel with the squad for their pre-season training camp in Scotland at St. Andrews, resulting in him missing the last pre-season friendly as well against Everton.
However, the goalkeeper has now returned to light training at Manchester United’s training complex in Carrington but the player is ‘expected’ to be able to step onto the pitch only next month as he would need a couple of weeks to regain full match fitness.
Testing positive for Covid-19 would have come as a blow for Henderson, who was expected to start the season in between the posts for United had he been fit. The 24-year-old featured in 26 games for United last season and was impressive, courtesy of which the Three Lions wanted him at the Euros.

Thus, the Englishman, who would have wanted to feature in a more starting role this season, will now have to wait until next month before he features for the Red Devils.
Till then, David de Gea will be in goal for United, while the club’s summer acquisition in Tom Heaton will act as the back-up as he did last weekend against Leeds United. But once Henderson returns, the Spanish stopper should expect him to come for his starting spot.
