Ruben Neves is still on the radar of Manchester United

According to 90min.com (h/t The Express), Manchester United are still interested in signing Ruben Neves from Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer.

The Red Devils are keen on signing a central midfielder this summer, courtesy of which they have been linked with Rennes’ Eduardo Camavinga, Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez, Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni, and several others.

This could be because the club want to fix their holding midfielder issues as both Scott McTominay and Fred might not be able to remain consistent over a 9-month campaign. Moreover, Nemanja Matic, who turned 33 this year, is ageing and will need a long-term replacement.

At 24, Neves has a lot of years ahead of him, which could be why the Red Devils were initially interested in the player.

The Portuguese featured heavily for Wolves last season as he made 40 appearances in all competitions while he also managed to score 5 goals and provide 2 assists in the process. The midfielder also featured for his country at the Euros, where they eventually lost to Belgium in the Round of 16 of the competition.

Neves would also allow United to function in a 4-3-3 formation instead of the 4-2-3-1 structure that Solskjaer has used in the last two years. Moreover, given Neves’ flexibility he could also be an able deputy to Paul Pogba, should the Frenchman leave the club this summer.

The 24-year-old is currently valued at £40million by Wolverhampton Wanderers, which United would be ready to pay if they are able to offload some first-team stars. The club are apparently ready to part ways with the likes of Anthony Martial, Diogo Dalot, Donny van de Beek, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Victor Lindelof, Jesse Lingard, and Phil Jones.

However, only time will tell if the Red Devils manage to offload the aforementioned players to fund a move for the Neves this summer.
