Solskjaer praises Cavani and Ronaldo as Manchester United cruise to a win over Tottenham Hotspur
According to the club’s official site, Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hailed veteran duo Edinson Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo for the role they played in the 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur.
Both players rolled back the years and got themselves a goal each in the must-win game in North London. Ronaldo opened the scoring with a well-taken volley in the first half before setting Cavani up for the second after the break. Marcus Rashford completed the scoring later on.
The win is a welcome relief for Solskjaer who has struggled in recent weeks. The 5-0 loss to Liverpool cannot be wiped away but the return to form against Tottenham is a welcome change of events.
“The old men {Ronaldo and Cavani] led from the front. They play well together. They have loads of respect for each other. The work rate and quality they put in is second to none.”
Whether the loss to Liverpool has changed Ole’s tactics or not, he goes on to add that a solid defence can make the difference for United. This is especially true given the world-class frontline at our disposal.
“We know when we have a clean sheet we have a chance to win any game because of the quality we have up front.”
United were far from their vintage best and Tottenham’s poor tactics on the night also played into our hands. However, Solskjaer believes the men stuck to the plan and have been rewarded for it.
“We’ve had a difficult week and they’ve stuck at it and worked really.”
With Liverpool and Manchester City dropping points, United’s win has seen them inch closer to the duo. Whether we can keep the good form going and go on an unbeaten run again remains to be seen.
