Manchester United News: Harry Maguire reveals his training schedule
Speaking in a press conference (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United captain Harry Maguire revealed that the training regime has changed at the club in order to not overwork players amid a busy season.
United’s fixture list has been extraordinary since the start of their season in September. They are yet to have a free mid-week, and Maguire is one of the players who is bearing the brunt of the truncated league season.
The Englishman has already played 49 games this season, with the possibility of making it 50 when England take on Poland on Wednesday night. But he says he actually looks at this situation in a positive light.
“I don’t look into the negative thoughts, I see it as a positive that I’ve played so many games.”
Maguire doesn’t fear a burnout
The former Leicester City defender states that training ground regimes have had to change. Players do not spend a lot of time in training, and instead, there are more tactical meetings now.
“I think at the moment especially at club level don’t spend a lot of time on the training pitch. We have a lot of meetings on tactical things and not much short, sharp training so yes it’s just feet up, it’s rest and recovery and get ready to go again.”
He even added that the best thing to do after a loss is to go out on the pitch again. That has not been a problem this season, as the games have been coming thick and fast. (h/t Manchester Evening News)
United prepare themselves to take on Granada in the quarter-final of the UEFA Europa League after the international break. And if we reach the final, it could be 14 more clubs games for Maguire this season until the Euros commence.
