Solskjaer singles out Mason Greenwood for praise after impressing for Manchester United vs West Ham
Talking to BBC (h/t Metro) after the win against West Ham, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer heaped the praise on youngster Mason Greenwood for his performance on the night in the 1-0 win.
United were attacking from the first whistle and never seemed to lose control of the game until the whistle. The only goal of the game came via a Chris Dawson own goal from a corner in the 53rd minute.
And it did not really change much. United were on the front foot for almost the entirety of the game and had 15 shots at goal as compared to the Hammers’ 7, with none of those 7 being on target. (h/t SofaScore)
The one player who stood above the rest in the game was Mason Greenwood. The 19-year-old led the line for United and was a constant threat with his crosses and attempts on goal.
Young sensation
And Solskjaer stated that the young striker is maturing really well, adding that his performance on the night deserved a goal.
“He deserved a goal he was excellent tonight. He’s getting there. He’s growing and maturing all the time. I have to say he’s played really well lately. He linked the play well, he held it up for us, kept switching it.”
Greenwood struck the post twice, with one of his shots being deflected onto the woodwork by goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski. The Norwegian, however, was equally impressed by Greenwood’s creative abilities.
“He had our two best chances… He kept creating chances for others as well so very pleased with Mason at the moment.”
