Ole Gunnar Solskjaer relaxed about Mason Greenwood being ommitted from England national team
Talking to reporters in a press conference before the game against Everton (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer clarified that Mason Greenwood not getting an England call-up is not something he is worried about.
Greenwood, who turned 20 on 1st October this year, is not with the senior England team for their FIFA World Cup qualifiers this month. The Three Lions will take on Andorra and Hungary as they look to book their berth of the showpiece event in Qatar next year.
The report states that Southgate had a chat with the Manchester United forward and Borussia Dortmund starlet, Jude Bellingham, before announcing his senior squad. And according to Solskjaer, Greenwood should not be worried about the premature axe.
“I think Gareth has had a frank conversation with Mason and his family and they know the situation. They know he is very keen to play for England and Gareth understands that the boy is only 20, just today he turns 20. He is not a teenager anymore. He is going to be a top player for Man United and England.”
Greenwood axed by Three Lions
Ole understands that Greenwood already has a lot of pressure on his shoulders. The youngster is already in the first-team fray and despite Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo’s addition, remains a strong contender for starting games for the club.
In that regard, the Man United boss thinks that this is an important step towards managing his game time and pressure. And for the fans, it’s pleasant news considering there won’t be a risk of the forward getting injured on international duty.
“He has to be managed in the right way and for us it gives us a chance to work on his fitness and give him a rest because he has been playing very well in a lot of games at a high intensity and he is maturing all the time, getting better all the time so there is time for him to recuperate and get ready for October and the rest of the season.”

Greenwood surprisingly has just 1 senior cap for the Three Lions which came all the way back in September 2020 against Iceland. But at 20, he still has a long way ahead of him and there is nothing stopping him from being a regular starter for England in the future.
