Jorge Jesus admits it will be difficult to land Manchester United star Nemanja Matic next summer
Speaking to Sport TV via O Jogo (h/t Sport Witness) earlier this week, Manchester United star Nemanja Matic admitted that he would welcome a return to former side Benfica.
While he admitted that he and his family both miss the city, he also hinted that the chance to work under Jorge Jesus once again would be a welcome opporunity.
The 32-year-old spent three years in Portugal where he won the Primiera Liga. He was also part of the Eagles side that made it to the finals of the 2013 Europa League.
According to A Bola (h/t Sport Witness), Jesus has now come out and given his two cents on the matter. He admits that while he would welcome a reuniuon, it could prove difficult this coming summer.
Jesus admits that Portuguese side do not have the financial prowess to match the numbers Matic earns at United. Whether a willingness to take a pay cut could make the job easier remains to be seen.
A well-travelled and successful manager, Jesus is the one who converted Matic into a defensive midfielder. He believes there are few better than the job than his Serbian protege.
Matic left Benfica to rejoin Chelsea in 2014. He spent three years at Stamford Bridge before moving to Old Trafford to reunite with Jose Mourinho.
At 32, Matic is not a long-term option for United. There will come a time when we will have to replace the midfielder and whether it will see him return to Benfica returns to be seen.
