Man United enter the race for impressive 26-year-old Serie A star

Manchester United enter the race for AC Milan ace Alessio Romagnoli

According to Italian publication Il Milanista (h/t Daily Star), Manchester United are weighing up a move for AC Milan ace Alessio Romagnoli.

The 26-year-old has been the lynchpin of the Milan defence since moving to the Italian capital from Roma in 2015. He was handed the captain’s armband since 2018.

He has just 15 months left on his current deal and Milan might be looking to offload him this summer. Maybe a sign of things to come, manager Stefano Pioli has left the player out of the lineup a number of times this season.

United are ready to punce if Milan put the defender up for sale. The Red Devils need a centre-back and it remains to be seen if Romagnoli is the man.

Currently in his prime, the Italian makes a compelling case for himself. He could slot in beside Harry Maguire and will also bring his leadership ability to the Red Devils squad.

Romagnoli is, however, represented by super agent Mino Raiola whose relationship with the club is frosty at best. Known for his controversial statements, he caused quite the furore with respect to Paul Pogba earlier this season.

A Raiola-infused summer!

As things stand, United might need to deal with Raiola numerous times this upcoming summer. Pogba might be on the move while the Red Devils are also interested in Erling Haaland and Gianluigi Donnarumma.

It has been suggested that Raiola might throw in Donnarumma as a part of the Romagnoli deal if one is to materialize. The goalkeeper is out of contract in the summer and could be taken on a free.

Whether any of it comes to fruition remains to be seen.
