Manchester United make contact over Pau Torres transfer
According to ESPN (h/t The Sun), Manchester United are said to have made contact with Pau Torres over a transfer. The Villarreal youngster has emerged as one of the transfer targets for Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Even Real Madrid are said to be after Torres.
Over the last few months, several centre-backs such as Raphael Varane and Jules Kounde have emerged on Manchester United’s radar and the general feeling is that the club are looking at a long-term partner for Harry Maguire.
However, Torres has become a realistic option for them because it is being said that they can sign him for a price lower than his £56m release clause. The fact that Torres is left-footed also appeals to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who is keen on someone like that so that Maguire can be played on the right.
Actually, his valuation would depend a lot more on where Villarreal finishes in La Liga this season. In case they miss out on a Europa League spot, they might not be in a position to demand the full release clause.

There is clearly a need for another new centre-back to partner Maguire with Lindelof underwhelming and Eric Bailly being injury prone. Pau Torres could represent a significant and useful bit of investment for them in that regard.
