Manchester United earmark three candidates to partner Harry Maguire
According to ESPN, Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified three potential candidates to partner Harry Maguire in defence.
Maguire has considerably strengthened out rearguard, but the same cannot be said of his partner.
Victor Lindelof has been the preferred option this season. The Swede has improved but still has an error in him.
With that in mind, bringing in a defender make sense. According to the report, the shortlist consists of Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake, Aston Villa stalwart Tyrone Mings, and AC Milan’s Alessio Romagnoli.
The trio may not be a stellar name such as Kalidou Koulibaly or Milan Skriniar but could prove to be astute buys.
Solskjaer appeared to tap-up Ake following Saturday’s 5-2 win against Bournemouth at Old Trafford. He, however, laughed it off while talking to the press earlier today. Interestingly, he did not give an explanation as to what he was up to.
Similar to Ake, Mings too has been a shining light in a side that is struggling to stay afloat in the Premier League. United fans can catch a glimpse of the defender’s abilities when we take on the Villans on Thursday.
Romagnoli is the biggest name of the trio. The Italian has been central to AC Milan this season.
With the Rossenori set to miss out on the Champions League, Romagnoli could be open to a move. United too, are at the moment, far from assured regarding their position in Europe’s premier competition next season.
Another problem we could face regarding the Italian is the change of guard at Milan. Ralf Rangnick is set to take over in the summer as Milan look to get back to their glory days.

Mings or Ake will be low-profile but solid additions to our squad. Their experience in the English soil could help them adapt quickly.
United will, however, need to focus on qualifying for the Champions League. With that in the bag, our pulling power will only increase.
