Transfer News: Man United to battle Tottenham for Premier League ace valued at £50m

Manchester United earmark Nick Pope as David de Gea’s replacement

According to the Daily Star, Manchester United have identified Burnley ace Nick Pope to replace David de Gea.

The Red Devils have both De Gea and Dean Henderson vying for the number one spot this season. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now keen to shake things up between the sticks.

De Gea was until recently back home in Spain for the birth of his child. This saw him miss the last three of our games. Now back in Manchester, he is currently in quarantine and is not yet available for selection.

De Gea is the club’s highest-earner and has been at Old Trafford for a decade. His time at the Theatre of Dreams might finally be coming to an end.

Rather than promote Henderson, it would appear United are keen to bring in another player – Burnley’s Nick Pope. A rival for Henderson’s England spot, Pope could rekindle the competition at the club level at Old Trafford.

He is, however, valued at an impressive £50m and is also wanted by Tottenham. An excellent Euros with England will only see his valuation increase.

Not old enough!

Henderson stepped in during De Gea’s absence and enjoying reasonable success. However, his inability to keep out AC Milan’s stoppage-time leveller has been a blot.

Despite playing 17 times for the club this season, the United upper echelons believe Henderson is not yet ready to take over as the club’s number one goalkeeper.

United are also keeping tabs on Brighton & Hove Albion star Robert Sanchez. It could prove to be an important summer at Old Trafford at least as far as the goalkeeping department is concerned.

United’s interest in Sanchez, who is a year younger than Henderson, is perplexing. While the Spaniard is an excellent keeper, what makes him old enough but not Henderson who is a year his senior is unknown.
