Valencia could rekindle efforts to land Manchester United star Juan Mata
According to Spanish publication La Razon, Valencia could be back in the fray for Manchester United star Juan Mata ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Crown Prince of Johor’s potential takeover at Valencia could open the doors for the Spanish veteran’s return to the Mestalla. The 32-year-old is now a peripheral player at United and could depart Old Trafford.
Mata’s contract at United runs out at the end of the season. While the club does have the option to extend his stay by another year, it remains to be seen if they will make use of it.
Valencia are keen to take advantage of the momentum that the Prince of Johor’s arrival, which would help them make renowned signings that are within their possibilities. Juan Mata is one such option for them.
The Spaniard made a name for himself at Valencia before leaving for Chelsea in 2011. Ten years on, with his career entering its twilight years, a return to familiar grounds could be on the cards.
Mata too is open to a return but will only do so if Valencia could provide him with a stable project.
They could, however, face competition from Galatasaray. They are on the hunt for a replacement for Younes Belhanda and could make a move for Mata. A well-travelled player, he will not be short of suitors.
