Nemanja Matic downplays reports of low confidence in the Manchester United squad
According to the club’s official site, Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic has dismissed suggestions that the Red Devils are suffering from a crisis of confidence.
The Red Devils slumped to a third straight 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace yesterday night. It has now left us 14 points adrift of Manchester City in the Premier League title race.
The club’s newfound profligacy in front of goal does not worry Matic. The Serbian believes ups and downs are a part of the game and the current slump is not much t worry about.
“I think that confidence, when you play for Man United, is not in question.”
As a Manchester United player, Matic is aware of the confidence that comes from donning one of the most recognizable colours in world sport. He has complete faith in the abilities of the squad and has urged them to showcase that on the pitch.
“You have to go to every game with confidence because you know that you represent one of the biggest teams in the world. That’s why we are here. We have quality on the pitch and we have to show that on the pitch.”
Matic believes United should have taken all three points against Palace. The Eagles midfield also adopted a deeper line, proving to be an impossible barrier for United to breach.
“We need to do better in attack. We know these are games we have to win.”
Bragging rights on offer!
The Red Devils take on league leaders Manchester City in the derby this weekend. In hindsight, the players could not have requested a better matchup.
Both the title race and honour are at stake in the battle for the Manchester bragging rights. Ending City’s 21-game winning streak could be the catalyst we need to get the season back on track.
“We have to be focused for the next game because everyone knows we have Manchester City to play. [It’s a] big game and big challenge for us and we want to get three points to see where we are.”
