Manchester United and Real Madrid make a ‘pact’ regarding Sergio Ramos
According to Spanish publication Marca (h/t Express), Manchester United and Real Madrid have come to an agreement regarding veteran defender Sergio Ramos.
The contradiction is that both sides have agreed on a pact that the Red Devils will not aggressively pursue the Spaniard’s signing this summer.
Soon to be out of contract, Ramos has been linked with a move to United. We are however prepared to step out and not make a move to land him.
Ramos is currently embroiled in negotiations with Madrid over a new contract. He is currently free to come to a pre-contract agreement with foreign sides.
It is not the first time that United have been linked with the 34-year-old. Ramos was on the club’s radar during Louis van Gaal’s reign in 2015. (h/t Daily Star)
The basis for the pact between both clubs is due to the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic. The pact also extends to other clubs across Europe. Both Manchester City and PSG have backed away from pursuing Lionel Messi due to a similar pact with Barcelona.
While signing Ramos would have been a decent move, he is unlikely to be a long-term option given he is 34. United are better off pursuing a younger defender who can provide us with a solution for years to come.
