Berbatov advises Manchester United to avoid signing Sergio Ramos
Speaking to Betfair (h/t Metro), former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov said that the club is don’t need to sign someone like Sergio Ramos as Eric Bailly has hit form at the right time.
Bailly was benched in the 2-0 loss against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup semi-final. However, he has impressed in his last three starts for the club in the Premier League.
Bailly has played the full 90 minutes against Aston Villa, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leicester City. The Ivorian has cured a major headache at the back for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The club finally has competition in defence for Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire. And now, Berbatov has taken notice of his performance.
The Bulgarian believes that United don’t have the need for a new defender anymore due to Bailly’s good form.
“If he [Bailly] stays focused and injury-free then he can be a rock at the back of defence.”
No need for Ramos?
Speaking about Manchester United’s links to Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos, Berbatov mentions that the Red Devils don’t have a need for him, even though he would add “steel” at the back.
He states that the 34-year-old is still quality and United “could do a lot worse”. However, Berbatov adds that a transfer is unnecessary and that the parties involved in the deal must think long and hard about it.
“I don’t think they [United] need anyone at the moment… both sides should think long and hard about it because the grass isn’t always greener.”

While having a serial winner such as Ramos at the club is a good prospect, Solskjaer could benefit by thinking about the long term. The club now has three first-team centre-backs fit and fighting for starts.
