Donny van de Beek told to hold crunch talks with Manchester United
Speaking to AD (h/t Daily Mail), Dutch legend Ronald de Boer has instructed Donny van de Beek to hold crunch talks with Manchester United.
Having joined from Ajax Amsterdam in the summer, Van de Beek has struggled to turn himself into a first-team regular. Although he has made 20 appearances so far, just eight of them have come as starts. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes the Dutchman will turn into an important player in the future. However, that appears to be some time off as the midfielder once again started on the bench against Manchester City yesterday. (h/t Daily Mail)
With opportunities at a premium, De Boer has told Van de Beek to clarify his position at the club. He has gone on to warn the 23-year-old that his lack of game time could impact his selection for Euro 2020.
“Euro 2020 is coming, he will undoubtedly want to be there. Maybe it would be good for him to discuss with the club exactly what they want with him.”
The Dutch national team boss also went on to add that Van de Beek could potentially leave the club on a loan or even permanently if things don’t improve.
“If the view on playing time does not improve, he may have to declare that he should be loaned or even sold.”
Rolling the dice!
De Boer believes the midfielder needs just one good performance to turn his luck around. The uncertainty behind the scenes continues to remain a mystery. It has been suggested that United could be preparing him for next season.
Van de Beek played no football over the festive period. He was subsequently dropped for the defeat to City, coming on only in the dying minutes.
