Solskjaer gives his verdict on Donny van de Beek after win against Everton
Speaking after the quarter-final win against Everton (h/t Manchester Evening News), Ole Gunnar Solskjaer lauded Donny van de Beek for his versatility.
Manchester United took on Everton in the Carabao Cup quarter-final on Wednesday. The first-half was dominated by the Red Devils before having to struggle in the second 45 minutes.
However, two late goals from Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial saw United go through to the semi-finals of the League Cup.
While Van de Beek faded later on in the game, he was particularly impressive on the left wing in the first-half.
And that did not go unnoticed by the United boss. Solskjaer praised Van de Beek’s versatility as he praised him for his performance against the Toffees.
“He is one of those clever players who can move into space, find space – same as Bruno, to be fair.”
The Norwegian likened the 23-year-old to Portuguese maestro Bruno Fernandes, and said the two are the team’s creative outlets.
“We want the two of them to move between the lines, get on the ball, link the play for us and find space. I thought he did well. “
The Dutch midfielder joined United in the summer after a £35million move from Ajax. Since then, he has struggled for game time.
This was Van de Beek’s 7th start of the season, with just two of them coming in the Premier League. However, Solskjaer’s comments after the win against Everton may see him get more chances.
With Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, and the physical midfield duo of Nemanja Matic and Scott McTominay, Solskjaer always has a handful of midfielders to choose from.

Van de Beek would now hope to get his United career up and running. After just 1 goal and 1 assist from his 18 appearances this season, the first-half showing against the Toffees could give him the confidence he needed.
The Dutch international would be hoping to get more minutes in the league as Manchester United now face Leicester City in the league on Boxing Day.
