Donny van de Beek sent a message by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after first Man Utd appearance of the season
According to Manchester Evening News, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has highlighted that Donny van de Beek is working very hard to make his way into the Manchester United starting lineup.
Van de Beek has struggled for game time ever since his move from Ajax last year. The 24-year-old had a loan move to Everton blocked towards the end of the summer transfer window.
The young midfielder made his first appearance late in the 4-1 victory against Newcastle United which saw Cristiano Ronaldo make a stunning second debut for Man Utd.
Ole spoke about the 24-year-old midfielder in an interview, during which he highlighted the Dutchman’s work ethic and talent. (h/t Manchester Evening News)
“Donny is part of the squad, same as everyone else. He is fighting to get minutes. First taste of minutes with a crowd today. This is Man United, Donny. This is what it feels like. He keeps working hard. He is such a professional. Top lad as well. He will get his minutes.”
Van de Beek only managed to make 4 starts for the Red Devils last season and things have not entirely improved for him this term. Despite the unavailability of Scott McTominay against the Magpies on Saturday, the former Ajax midfielder could not secure a place in the starting lineup.
The Manchester United midfielder had been omitted from Louis van Gaal’s Netherlands team for the international fixtures earlier this month.
Van de Beek could struggle to make the starting XI in their Champions League tie against Young Boys on Tuesday, but the manager has given hints that the Dutch midfielder will get more minutes on the pitch this season.

Manchester United are off to a great start and currently sit on top of the Premier League table. They are yet to be beaten in this PL campaign and their only draw came against Southampton. The Red Devils travel to Bern for their next fixture in the Champions League. And van de Beek would be hoping to feature more prominently then.
