Bayer Leverkusen show interest in signing Brandon Williams in January

A report by The Daily Telegraph (h/t ESPN) has tipped Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen to sign Manchester United left-back Brandon Williams in a potential loan move.

The 20-year-old left-back, who broke into Manchester United’s first team last season, has slowly grown out of favour.

Williams featured in 36 games for the Red Devils in his debut season at the club. However, he has only made 5 appearances this season for Solskjaer’s side.

Out of those 5 appearances, none have been starts in the Premier League, as he has played just 6 minutes of league football this season.

Amidst his trouble finding playing time at the club, there have been numerous links of him leaving Old Trafford on loan in order to search for game time. (h/t ESPN)

And now, Bundesliga mainstays Bayer Leverkusen are in the race for his signature. ‘The Eternal Bridesmaids’ are first in the Bundesliga so far this season, leading defending champions Bayern Munich by 1 point.

However, the Bundesliga club will face serious competition from Southampton for Williams’ signature. Saints’ interest in the player is clear and the Premier League club may well bring the left-back to St. Mary’s in the future. (h/t ESPN)

Whichever club Brandon Williams decides to join, it can only be beneficial for him, as he would be able to enjoy more first-team experience.

Ever since Manchester United signed Alex Telles from FC Porto this summer, the Red Devils have not had a shortage of left-backs. The Brazilian has shared game time on the left flank with English full-back Luke Shaw.

With Williams being just 20 years old, a loan spell away could be a good move for his development before he lays claim to a starting spot at Old Trafford in the future.
