Former Man United duo back Man United to go all the way in the PL this season

Owen and Scholes back Manchester United to compete for the Premier League title

According to Amazon Prime Video (h/t The Daily Mail), former stars Paul Scholes and Michael Owen have both backed Manchester United to challenge for the Premier League title this season.

This comes after the Red Devils picked up their sixth straight win on the road against Sheffield United yesterday.

The victory took us to within five points of league leaders Liverpool with a game in hand. Given that teams around us have also dropped points, our win came at a decisive time.

David McGoldrick pounced on an early error by Dean Henderson to put Sheffield up 1-0 in the fifth minute. However, a brace by Marcus Rashford either side of an Anthony Martial strike ensured the Red Devils took a commanding 3-1 lead.

Although McGoldrick gave the Blades hope late on, Dean Henderson saved our blushes in stoppage time to ensure all three points.

Scholes believes United’s attack put in an exciting display and could help the Red Devils launch a title charge provided they can stay fit.

“I think if they can keep nine or ten players fit for the next 26 games they will be there or thereabouts.”

Vindication for Solskjaer?

Scholes, who raised questions regarding Solskjaer’s formations in the past, praised the Norwegian’s use of a 4-2-3-1 against the Blades. He believes the set-up worked a peach and brings the best out of the players at our disposal.

“It’s a formation that really suits the team.”

Owen too talked up United’s chances of challenging for the title. However, he believes it depends on our ability to keep the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford on the pitch.

“The only way they can is by getting their best players on the pitch.”

While there is still a long way to go before the Premier League season concludes, it would be foolhardy to dismiss United.

The Red Devils have time and again shown resilience to turn adversity into strength. There is no reason why we cannot keep it up for the reminder of the season.
