Arsene Wenger reminds Manchester United they still hold the aces in the Paul Pogba affair

Manchester United star Paul Pogba is at the centre of a storm following comments by his agent Mino Raiola. The French international was said to be unhappy at the club and will not be extending his current contract that expires in 2022.

Speaking on ESPN’s Caught Offside podcast (h/t Mirror), former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has reminded United that it is in the player’s best interests to impress on the field in order to secure a move away.

“It’s the best way to prepare your future, to play well in the present.”

Arsene Wenger believes Manchester United can take advantage of the Paul Pogba situation

Pogba has everything in his locker to become a world-beater. It is something he does regularly for France but only fleetingly so in United jersey.

With him now seeking a move away, Wenger has told the Red Devils to use the situation to their advantage. Ironically, now that he is on his way out, Pogba could put up his best run of form since joining us in 2016.

Wenger believes despite what a player’s future holds, it will serve him well to continue performing well at his current club.

“I believe that you have to explain to a player that no matter what his future plan is, his interest and his job is to perform at the present club.”

Wenger’s words appear to have some truth in them. The player came off the bench to make an instant impact against RB Leipzig midweek.

He also started the Manchester derby at the weekend and put in a solid performance. With a busy Christmas schedule coming up, he can hopefully take his performance up a notch.

Pogba returned to United in 2016 to much fanfare. Unfortunately, his time at the club has been rather anti-climatic. Even if his future lies elsewhere, hopefully, he can end his time with us on a high.
