Anthony Martial leaves Manchester United training ahead of PSG clash
According to MEN, Manchester United striker Anthony Martial was unable to complete training ahead of the Champions League clash against PSG.
The French striker was a part of the United squad that travelled to Southampton on Sunday. He did not however feature in the match after falling ill in the lead-up to it.
The 24-year-old turned up to training along with the rest of his teammates today. However, he was sent home after being deemed not fit enough to train.
With David de Gea also suffering an injury in the win over Southampton, the loss of Martial ahead of the clash against PSG is not desirable.
The French champions come to United knowing that their continued participation in the competition is at stake. A loss tomorrow coupled with a RB Leipzig win against Istanbul Basaksehir will take their fate out of their own hands.
United meanwhile need just one point to ensure their participation in the last 16. The club have won three of their opening four games and are top of their group.
Martial was the club’s top-scorer last season. He has however failed to hit the same heights this time around.
However, this could set the stage for Edinson Cavani to start up front against his former club. The Uruguayan came off the bench to provide an assist and score twice to overturn a two-goal deficit at St Mary’s.
Cavani was a part of a terrific front three at PSG that included Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. It would be fair to say that he was often overshadowed by the reputation of his strike partners.
Putting the French champions to the sword would be an excellent way to show them what they missed out on this summer.
