Manchester United plot Old Trafford return for Jonny Evans
According to The Sun, Manchester United could be about to make a swoop for former defender Jonny Evans.
The veteran defender came through the academy at United before going on to make 198 appearances for the club. He eventually left the club in 2015 and joined West Bromwich Albion.
To his credit, Evans made the most of the opportunity and has emerged as a key player for West Brom and now Leicester City.
Both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Mike Phelan remain keen on the defender who is out of contract next summer. Evans is keen to stay on at Leicester while United continue to monitor his situation. (h/t The Sun)
Despite considerable investment, United’s defence has been far from convincing. Solskjaer needs a left-sided centre-back and could see a short term solution in Evans.
United skipper Harry Maguire and Evans spent a season together at Leicester in 2018/19. It remains to be seen if they will rekindle the partnsership at the Theatre of Dreams.
Evans will turn 33 next January and is at best a stop-gap solution. However, he has shown he still has it in him to compete at the top level. Also if signed on a free, it would be worth considering him as an option to address the gaps in our squad.
