Manchester United agree £14m first-refusal option for Luis Gomes

According to The Mirror, Manchester United have agreed a £14million first-refusal option for Luis Gomes.

The 16-year-old signed his first professional contract with Sporting Lisbon last week. Despite his tender years, he has been compared to Portuguese legend Luis Figo.

Despite his future at Sporting secure for five years, United have the first refusal in case the Primeira Liga side decide to sell.

The Red Devils have a good record of signing players from Sporting. The likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani and more recently Bruno Fernandes have all made the move from the Jose Alvalade Stadium to Old Trafford.

The youngster had earlier garnered attention from Spanish giants Atletico Madrid. However, he has stayed put and could, in time, end up at the Theatre of Dreams.

Gomes has been at Sporting since 2010. He is held in high regard and is expected to follow in the steps of Figo and Ronaldo.

The Red Devils have brought in a number of promising young talents of late. This includes deals for Facundo Pellistri, Amad Diallo and Willy Kambwala.

While Gomes is yet to break into the first-team, much is expected of him in the years to come. If he reaches anywhere close to Figo or Ronaldo, United will have a real player on their hands.

For now, Gomes’ future lies in Portugal. If he progresses as expected, he could eventually turn up in the famous red jersey of United. Only time will tell if the price agreed upon will turn out to be a bargain for the Red Devils.
