Manchester United could make a move for Declan Rice next summer

According to Caught Offside, Declan Rice is expected to leave West Ham United next summer amidst interest from Manchester United.

The 22-year-old has been a great servant to the club ever since he joined the club’s youth academy in 2013. The Englishman has come to the fore in recent years and has emerged as one of the top central midfielders in England.

Last year alone, Rice made 35 appearances in all competitions for the Hammers, including 32 in the Premier League. In the process, he also managed 2 goals and 1 assist, however, his all-round play was one of the reasons for the club securing a 6th place finish in the League table i.e., a place in the Europa League this season.

However, the 22-year-old is expected to leave the London Stadium next summer. According to Manchester Evening News (h/t Caught Offside), the Englishman was keen on a move to Manchester United this summer, but a deal never materialized.

West Ham had set a £100million price tag on their prized asset, and the Red Devils had already spent a lot of money this summer.

However, it bodes well for United if the Englishman leaves East London next summer as they are also set to step up their interest in signing a defensive midfielder next year, according to the Manchester Evening News (h/t Caught Offside).

With Nemanja Matic’s contract set to expire in 2023, Rice could work as the long-term heir to the defensive midfield role or add to the existing quality in the ranks.

The 22-year-old has already featured in all three Premier League games for West Ham this summer, however, United would be hoping that the Englishman is seen in their famous red jersey next season.
