Man United star sends a message to opposition star who ended his incredible streak

Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes responds to Karl Darlow penalty save

Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes appeared unbeatable from the penalty spot. That appeared to be the case until he faced Newcastle United yesterday.

Magpies goalkeeper Karl Darlow guessed right and parried away the Portuguese midfielder’s spot-kick. Fernandes had earlier scored all 10 of his spot-kicks for the club.

Although Fernandes missed from the spot, he went on to score late on to guide United to a well-earned win.

According to The United Report (h/t Daily Star), Fernandes showed grace after the match and congratulated Darlow for ending his streak. He went on to remind others of how clinical he had been from the spot.

“Congratulations to him. He is the first goalkeeper in the Premier League to save a penalty from me.”

The 26-year-old has an excellent record when it comes to taking penalties. Throughout his career, he has taken 33 spotkicks, missing just three of them.

Speaking on Match of the Day, Fernandes also opened up on his changed penalty technique.

He admits that he mixes up his approach but that it did not come off on the night. While his approach may not have paid off this time around, he is keen to keep improving in the future.

“I need to do what is better for the game – today was not the right choice but doesn’t matter, miss the penalty, I have to keep improving in the next games.”
