Twitter reacts as Mikael Silvestre rips into Jamie Carragher

Former Manchester United star Mikael Silvestre has launched an astonishing attack on former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher on Twitter.

The Frenchman was responding to Carragher’s criticism of David Luiz in his horrendous performance against Manchester City.

The Arsenal star started the match against City on the bench. He was forced to come on early for the injured Pablo Mari.

What followed was a one-man disaster class as he single-handedly destroyed his team’s good start.

He failed to control the ball on the verge of halftime and put in Raheem Sterling to open the scoring.

Luiz’s night got worse as he was dismissed shortly after the restart. He was punished for bringing down Riyad Mahrez when he raced through on goal.

This led to Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher to predict that Luiz could have played his last game in the Premier League.

Although we don’t see anything wrong with the comment, former United star Silvestre clearly thought otherwise. He took to Twitter and likened the comment to Carragher’s infamous incident of spitting at a football fan.

Silvestre spent two seasons at Arsenal after he left United in 2008. It is good to see a former player defend a current one, but we have to feel that Silvestre’s comments are unwarranted.

Luiz has been a liability to Arsenal all season and it is difficult to defend the indefensible. Had he been a United player, none of us would want him in our lineups again.

The tweet came as a surprise to a number of amused United fans. We take a look at a few of them below.
