Manchester United discover their Europa League fate
According to the Mirror, Manchester United will resume their UEFA Europa League campaign in August.
The Red Devils already have one foot in the quarter-finals, having won 5-0 away to LASK in the first leg of the last 16. The second leg will be played on August 5th or 6th. (h/t Mirror)
Once the last eight of the tournament are known, a mini-tournament of sorts will be held in Germany to determine the winner.
The Red Devils could potentially be joined by Wolverhampton Wanderers and Scottish giants Rangers. The former holds the advantage on away goals while the latter was schooled by Leverkusen in the first leg.
According to the report, UEFA has not yet determined if the matches will be organized at the respective host stadiums, or in Germany.
Scheduled to be held between August 10-21, a knockout format will help determine this season’s winners. United will look to repeat their heroics of 2017 where they won the final against Ajax Amsterdam.
This means that a number of teams will be just three wins away from securing a spot in the UEFA Champions League. Given the financial impact, the coronavirus pandemic has had, a chance to take part in the lucrative competition is not to be sniffed at.
The German cities that will host the games include Cologne, Duisburg, Düsseldorf, Gelsenkirchen, with the final to be held in Cologne. (h/t Mirror)
UEFA’s decision to postpone the Euro 2020 tournament to next summer has freed up time for the current season to be completed.
