Manchester United are keen to sign Atalanta’s defensive maestro Giorgio Scalvini.
Manchester United have expressed strong interest in signing Giorgio Scalvini from Serie A side Atalanta. The Red Devils are looking to bolster their defensive department after showing vulnerability during the start of the current season.
Scalvini has been a pivotal figure in Atalanta’s side and also managed to break into the Italian national team. Many Italian fans and experts liken the 19-year-old to Italian legend Alessandro Bastoni.
The Italian international has already played 65 games for Atalanta while contributing four goals and two assists. Scalvini has already bagged a lot of experience in the top league of his country due to his maturity. The youngster has received only nine bookings while playing for the Italian club.
Italian publication Tuttomercatoweb reported that a lot of clubs hold an interest in acquiring the service of the Italian. Napoli tried to sign the 19-year-old during the summer but withdrew when they learned about the 50 million euros valuation.
Fabrizio Romano reported that the Red Devils are looking to bolster their defense in 2024. United’s keen interest in Scalvini is understandable after the potential success Rasmus Hojlund has shown.
The Red Devils signed Hojlund from Scalvini’s club Atalanta during the summer and the Danish forward has performed impressively.
The 19-year-old stands at six feet four inches tall and possesses physical strength to dominate aerially and in duels. The Italian international is way ahead of his age in terms of maturity as he possesses great tactical awareness. Scalvini anticipates the opponent’s game well and uses aggression and strength to his advantage.
The Italian is still calm enough to make sure his aggression does not get the better of him. The 19-year-old’s best work comes on the ball as well as he is technically very sound. Scalvini has great ball control and distributional abilities from the back line. The Italian is a proper modern-day defender and at such a young age, he has a long career ahead.
