Liverpool join Manchester United in the race for Barcelona defender Mikayil Faye
Liverpool are among the clubs who have joined Manchester United in the race for talented Barcelona centre-back Mikayil Faye, according to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo.
Despite having yet to make a first-team appearance for the Spanish giants, Faye has already been on the lips of all the top clubs in the world, due to his immense potential and performance for the reserve team and the Senegal national team.
Having joined Barcelona only back in the summer, it is rather surprising that Faye hasn’t made his debut for the Spanish club yet. However, considering the fact that the likes of Ronald Araujo and Pau Cubarsi have spots nailed down in central defence, it is not exactly a surprise either.
Yet, Liverpool, Man Utd, Bayern Munich, AS Monaco and LOSC Lille are all interested in signing him next summer. However, it does look like any club could be futile in their attempt as Barcelona seem to have a plan for him.
A left-footed centre-back who is physical, pacy, good with the pass and has a shot in his locker that would make a number nine proud – defenders like Faye are almost impossible to find and Barcelona would know this better than any other club.
Circumstances could lead to sale?
Although common sense says Barcelona should consider Faye unsellable, the Spanish club are not in that kind of a luxury right now. Their financial predicaments are well documented and they might have to make tough decisions this summer.
Considering the kind of interest that Faye is courting, he makes himself a very sellable asset for Barcelona. If the need comes, then the club might choose to let the Senegalese wonderkid leave and use the money to help their situation.
If Man Utd are keen about signing Faye, they must brace themselves for a transfer battle with some of the top clubs in Europe. Considering their current situation, it might just be a battle that they would end up losing.

Right now, this interest in Faye is more speculative than anything else. There isn’t much to read into here. The club will have to be watchful of his situation and how this pans out in the coming months.
