Manchester United forward Jadon Sancho accuses manager Erik ten Hag of discriminatory treatment
Metro reports that Manchester United forward Jadon Sancho believes there is a significant level of inconsistency in how manager Erik ten Hag treats him compared to other United players.
The 23-year-old engaged in a public spat with the manager right before the international break. Ten Hag asserted that he excluded Sancho from the matchday squad against Arsenal due to his performance in training.
United lost the game 3-1 by conceding two stoppage-time goals that added to their struggling start to the new season. Sancho used the social platform, X, to retaliate, accusing the manager of scapegoating him for the team’s failure.
The public spat has divided the fanbase and football pundits with criticism pointed toward both the player and the manager, respectively.
The Athletic reported that the England international is refusing to apologise to the manager. Ten Hag has currently ordered Sancho to train away from the first-team squad as the private talks between the two failed.
Sancho is maintaining that his performances in training have been at the required level while he feels there have been some double standards at play. The Englishman also expressed disappointment that his club manager chose to make his grievances public.
The Mail reported that the Ten Hag made Sancho’s mental struggle public last year without clearance from the club. The report suggested that Ten Hag believed he was being ‘supportive’ of Sancho with his comments.
A club of United’s stature should have better protocols in place to make sure players feel safe when they disclose information in order to seek help. Allow individuals dealing with mental health issues to choose when to publicize them based on their discretion.
The Red Devils are currently in the 11th position in the Premier League as Premier League action returns this weekend. United will face a tough challenge against Brighton and Hove Albion this Saturday at Old Trafford.
Sancho’s future at United remains unclear as the forward is not willing to apologise for his actions. We have reached an impasse of sorts and who blinks first remains to be seen.
