Dwight Yorke urges Manchester United to re-sign Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku
Manchester United great Dwight Yorke has urged Manchester United to re-sign Romelu Lukaku on loan from Chelsea in the ongoing transfer window.
It seems like the Belgium international has fallen out of favour at the Blues. After returning from his loan spell from Inter Milan this summer, the striker has been left out of the Stamford Bridge side’s pre-season tour and the opening two games of the 2023/24 term.
Speaking to OLBG via football.london, Yorke, who spent four years of his playing career at the Old Trafford side, has suggested the Red Devils and Tottenham Hotspur to get a hold of Lukaku on a short-term basis.
“I think Man United or Tottenham should take Lukaku on a short-term loan deal and agree to pay a certain amount of his wages. As much as people say about Lukaku, he has a very impressive goalscoring record and he doesn’t get as much credit as he deserves.
“Man United have invested heavily in Rasmus Hojlund, but if you want to compete with the best then Lukaku is that player who can score 15 to 20 goals in a season, which is priceless and hard to find in today’s game.”
United have already previously had the Belgian in their ranks. In the summer of 2017, the Red Devils acquired the striker’s services after his impressive spell at Everton.
Lukaku’s debut campaign at the Old Trafford side was decent. However, the forward showcased a lack of consistency and left a lot to be desired in front of goal in the 2018/19 term.
Subsequently, United sold him to Inter Milan. The Belgian managed to find his feet at the Nerazzurri and caught a lot of people’s attention with his displays. The striker was the Serie A outfit’s talisman as they won the Scudetto in 2021.
Then, Chelsea, who had initially signed Lukaku in 2011, got a hold of his signature once again. However, the Blues parted ways with the forward a year after his return to the Stamford Bridge side.
At United, the attack has been bolstered with the addition of Rasmus Hojlund. However, the Danish national is on the sidelines for now. The Old Trafford side have showcased a lack of clinicality in the opening two games of the new season and lost 2-0 to Tottenham on 19 August.

Marcus Rashford has looked uncomfortable playing in the number nine position. Therefore, we arguably could do with reinforcements up front. However, Lukaku’s performances over the last few months have not been encouraging and it would be wise to focus our attention on other players.
