Manchester United and Real Sociedad in talks for Donny Van de Beek
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United and Real Sociedad are in discussions to finalise the future of out-of-favour midfielder Donny Van de Beek.
Van de Beek is rumoured to be on the verge of Old Trafford exit after falling out of favour under Erik Ten Hag and could be on his way to Spain if Sociedad succeeds in convincing the Dutchman to shift sides.
The Dutch attacking midfielder’s signing was met with utmost excitement and the fact that top teams like Real Madrid were also interested, it felt like a coup from United to get one of the upcoming midfield talents to the club.
However, the move did not materialise as either party would have expected it and now it does feel like a move away for both parties is the correct next step.
Ten Hag is keen to add midfield reinforcements before the start of the season with Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat sitting on top of the list but he needs to sell players or get them off the wage book in order to achieve that.
From the midfield department, Fred and Donny Van de Beek are expected to be on the move out which could potentially create space to bring in another midfielder.
Sociedad have the side credited with the most interest in Van de Beek but they prefer a loan deal with an option to buy which could be a sticking point but it feels like United could be ready to do business on such conditions.
With the UEFA Euro Championship approaching in 2024 and the player missing out previously on the World Cup national squad, he needs regular game time which is not guaranteed at United.

Hence a move away from United for the 26-year-old seems like the best possible outcome in the situation but it remains to be seen how the next week pans out.
