Fabrizio Romano claims that Manchester United are interested in getting a striker first and then will move on to midfield targets
According to Fabrizio Romano (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United are prioritising signing a forward and then will shift their attention towards reinforcements in midfield.
United have been strongly linked with Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund and Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat as the club’s two main targets going forward.
While there were strong speculations of Amrabat being really close to signing for United, Romano claims that the club is focused on getting a deal for a striker over the line and then will move onto the midfield.
This means that a bid for Hojlund would be nearer than we thought while a deal for Amrabat might take some more time.
Hojlund has been Erik Ten Hag’s preferred striker choice with the Dutch believing he is the perfect man for his long-term project at United.
At the same time, Hojlund is a boyhood United fan and is really keen on signing for the team with personal terms already being agreed between the player and United.
Now, it remains to be seen whether the club will be able to agree on a transfer fee with Atalanta, who are reluctant to budge from their demands of a huge fee.
Hopefully, there is no delay as that can directly impact a deal for Amrabat, who is most certainly going to leave Fiorentina this summer window with a host of clubs interested in signing him.
United are very well in the race for the Moroccan and on paper it looks like a much easier deal to do than the one involving Hojlund and Atalanta.
