Feyenoord shot-stopper Justin Bijlow claims Manchester United made contact to sign him

Justin Bijlow, who plays for Feyenoord, has claimed that Manchester United have made contact in the ongoing transfer window to acquire his services.

This summer, the Red Devils have added Andre Onana to their ranks. The Cameroonian was signed from Inter Milan recently. However, the Old Trafford side are open to singing another goalkeeper in the coming weeks.

To that end, speaking to FR12 (h/t Manchester Evening News), the Holland international has revealed that United have been in touch with him. However, the Red Devils are yet to make an offer to the Eredivisie outfit.

“I don’t want to talk about it too much, it’s just quiet now. There was just contact. Manchester United have not made an offer to Feyenoord, but what I say: I don’t want to talk about it out of respect for Feyenoord.”

Bijlow made his way through the youth ranks at Feyenoord. Subsequently, in the 2018/19 term, the shot-stopper established himself in the Rotterdam-based club’s starting lineup.

However, injuries have hampered the promising goalkeeper’s development over the years. The 25-year-old has struggled to consistently stay fit. Even in the previous campaign, the Holland national was on the sidelines for a big chunk of the season.

However, Bijlow was still key to Feyenoord’s success in the previous campaign. Arne Slot’s team played dominant football and lifted the Eredivisie title.

At United, David de Gea was the number one in the previous campaign. But the Spaniard is no longer associated with the Manchester-based club after his contract expired last month.

During pre-season so far, Tom Heaton has heavily featured in between the sticks for the Red Devils. Dean Henderson is on the sidelines at the moment. However, the 26-year-old’s future at the Old Trafford side is uncertain.

Therefore, it is understandable that United are keeping their options open and have their eyes on a few goalkeepers to add reinforcements. But whether Bijlow will be pursued by the club this summer remains to be seen.
