Manchester United defender Harry Maguire is being eyed by Tottenham Hotspur in the ongoing transfer window to bolster their defence, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.net.

Spurs will push to acquire the services of the England international this summer from the Old Trafford side. The centre-back’s future at the Red Devils is uncertain under Erik ten Hag.

Ange Postecoglou, the new manager of the North London side, wants to reinforce his squad in the coming weeks. To that end, the Lilywhites are willing to bet on the 30-year-old in their backline.

As things stand, Tottenham have discarded the other options on their radar for the time being to focus on getting a hold of Maguire’s signature in the coming weeks. The North London side will look to put in an offer to convince United to part ways with him.

Spurs have struggled defensively for some time now. The likes of Eric Dier, Ben Davies and Davinson Sanchez have been unable to find consistency at the Lilywhites over the years.

The former Leicester City star was a crucial part of the Red Devils’ plans prior to Ten Hag’s arrival. However, last season, the centre-back found himself on the bench often and now has even lost the captaincy.

At the Old Trafford side, Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane formed a formidable partnership in the previous campaign. The two World Cup winners were solid for most of the 2022/23 term.

Victor Lindelof put in some decent displays when he was called upon as well by the Dutch manager. At times, even Luke Shaw played as a central defender despite the availability of Maguire.
