Tom Heaton set to discuss Manchester United future with Erik ten Hag

Manchester United shot-stopper Tom Heaton is set to discuss his future at the club with Erik ten Hag this summer, according to The Guardian.

The veteran goalkeeper is expected to sit down with the gaffer and evaluate his role in the team ahead of next season. Over the years, the 37-year-old has been a bit-part player at the Old Trafford side.

As a result, there is a chance that the English national might part ways with the Red Devils in order to get regular game time elsewhere. It remains to be seen what decision the two parties will come to.

Heaton made his way through the youth ranks at United. However, despite spending several years at the Manchester-based club initially, the shot-stopper never got a first-team opportunity.

Subsequently, in the summer of 2010, the 37-year-old opted to sign for Cardiff City. However, it was at Burnley that the veteran goalkeeper established himself.

After a number of years at the Turf Moor side, the English national spent a year at Aston Villa before making his way back to United in the summer of 2021. But game time has been hard to come by for him at the Red Devils over the years.

Heaton has mostly been a bit-part player at the Old Trafford side. In the last three seasons, the shot-stopper has made three appearances in all competitions for us.

During pre-season, the English national has featured heavily for United. However, it will be interesting to see how the 37-year-old’s situation will unfold with the arrival of Andre Onana from Inter Milan.

Heaton still possesses a lot of quality despite his age. Therefore, we could evidently do with someone of the 37-year-old’s experience in our ranks going into next season.
