Manchester United are considering making a £50 million move to sign Antonio Rudiger from Real Madrid this summer, according to El Nacional (h/t Manchester Evening News).

In the ongoing transfer window, the Red Devils are planning on acquiring the Germany international’s services. To that end, the Old Trafford side are willing to offer the centre-back guaranteed game time to entice him.

However, the 30-year-old only recently joined Los Blancos. As things stand, the La Liga outfit’s president Florentino Perez is keen on keeping hold of him.

But United are set to test Rudiger and Madrid’s resolve with their proposal. Although, United have not identified bolstering the backline as one of the priority tasks this summer. Therefore, it remains to be seen whether we will put a concrete offer on the table to get the German national.

Los Blancos got the defender on a free transfer last year after his departure from Chelsea. The 30-year-old was a key player at the Stamford Bridge side.

However, Rudiger has struggled for regular minutes in the Spanish capital. Carlo Ancelotti preferred Eder Militao and David Alaba as his centre-back pairing in the 2022/23 term.

As for United, Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez have formed a formidable duo under Erik ten Hag. Subsequently, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have been relegated to the bench.

Thus, even with the probable exit of the former Leicester City star from the Red Devils, there is still a lot of competition for a place in the backline at the Manchester-based club.

It will be interesting to see who Rudiger will displace in the Old Trafford side’s starting lineup if he does end up signing for us. But for now, we evidently have enough talent in our backline going into next season.
