Manchester United reject Borussia Dortmund’s ‘sneaky’ loan bid for Jadon Sancho

Manchester United have apparently rejected a ‘sneaky bid’ from Borussia Dortmund for winger Jadon Sancho, as per Daily Star (h/t the Express).

The England international spent four very successful years with the Black and Yellow since joining them from Manchester City’s youth academy in 2017. Then, Man United came.

They threw £73million at Dortmund’s face to sign their superstar winger in the summer of 2021. But the two years since have been highly, highly underwhelming.

Things have worsened under Erik ten Hag. Majorly due to an unexplained hiatus Sancho took last season, he played under 1700 minutes of Premier League football last term.

What next for Sancho?

For a player of Sancho’s ilk and for the fee we paid, these are disappointing numbers. At the age of 23, he should be one of our leading forwards who contributes handsomely when it comes to goals and assists.

But he could now be fighting for his future at Old Trafford. No one can replace Marcus Rashford down the left flank as long as he is here, while Ten Hag brought with him Antony last summer to play on the right flank.

Where does Sancho fit in all of this? He played 41 times last season, so obviously he provides important depth to the squad.

But what happens if Manchester United bring in a world-class attacker this summer? Sancho could have to fall further down the pecking order. Dortmund’s bid was destined to be rejected.

It would have been a clear indication of failure on Manchester United and Sancho’s part if he had to return to the club, albeit on a loan, that he left with so much hope and expectation.

But this does raise the question of whether loaning Sancho out for a season could be a good option.
