Manchester United are considering handing Alejandro Garnacho the famous number seven shirt at the club after his breakthrough season, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The 18-year-old made his debut for the Red Devils last year in April. In the 1-1 draw, the youngster came on in the final minutes of the match as a substitute.

However, the previous campaign is when the Argentine national established himself in the Old Trafford side’s senior squad. Erik ten Hag heavily relied on the forward last season.

Initially, Garnacho found it hard to get into the Dutch manager’s plans. However, slowly but surely, the 18-year-old won the gaffer over with some impressive displays.

The youngster had several clutch moments last season. From scoring the stoppage time winner against Fulham in the 2-1 win in the Premier League to changing the game when he came on against Manchester City as we made a comeback and won 2-1 at Old Trafford.

At United, the number seven shirt has a memorable history. George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona and David Beckham are all associated with it at the Old Trafford side.

Cristiano Ronaldo then made it his own and became the first teenager to don the number seven on his back. However, after the Portugal international’s move to Real Madrid, the likes of Michael Owen, Memphis Depay, Alexis Sanchez and Edinson Cavani were unable to do justice to it.

Subsequently, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner had the number in the previous campaign. Unfortunately, his second stint at the Theatre of Dreams did not end on the best of terms.

Garnacho was also recently handed his international debut by Argentina. It is evident that United have high expectations from him. Hopefully, if he does end up wearing number seven, the 18-year-old will make us all proud.
