Manchester United and Mason Mount fear they will be priced out of a move by Chelsea
As per Evening Standard, there is genuine fear from the camps of Mason Mount and Manchester United that they will be priced out of a move by Chelsea.
A couple of days ago, Chelsea rejected a second bid worth £50m from United for the England international. They are holding out for £70m at the moment.
Mount’s contract at Stamford Bridge expires next summer. The Blues are ready to risk him leaving for free then because he has fallen out with the club hierarchy and won’t sign a new deal there.
Chelsea’s demand of £70m for the 24-year-old is probably bolstered by the fact that Arsenal are paying £65m to sign Kai Havertz and Mateo Kovacic is sold to Manchester City for about £30m.
On the other hand, United boss Erik ten Hag has earmarked Mount as his top transfer target for this summer transfer window.
As a result of that, will the Red Devils come up with a new bid, or are they starting to think about the alternatives? We will wait and see about that.
Mount is a fantastic player who can play in multiple positions across the midfield and forward line. He is a technically solid player who is good on the ball and even better off it.
We might see a bit of a cat-and-mouse game going in the coming days if United remain interested in the player and Chelsea stick by their price tag.
Can the Blues afford to lose a player of that stature for free next summer? Should they not accept a transfer fee in the vicinity of what they are demanding? That would be a sensible opinion.
