Manchester United will do their best to lower the asking fee of Porto keeper Diogo Costa
As per Portuguese outlet A Bola (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United will try to lower the asking fee of 23-year-old FC Porto keeper Diogo Costa before potentially signing him.
The report reveals that the Red Devils have no intention of matching the asking price of €75m for the Portugal international.
A few days ago, Costa was asked about his future at Porto amidst United’s interest. His response did not close the door to either staying in Portugal or moving to United or any other club in the summer transfer window.
United are in the race to sign a goalkeeper this summer. There have been revelations that they are trying to sign Everton stopper Jordan Pickford irrespective of whether David de Gea extends his stay at the club.
Now, getting Pickford would not be a great idea because as good as a shot-stopper the Englishman is, he is not good with the ball at his feet when asked to play out from the back.
Costa, on the other hand, is a talented young keeper who is good at stopping the shots and playing out from the back, just like how Erik ten Hag wants his gloveman to do.
The insistence on turning the transfer fee down to sign the Portugal international is the right to do as well. As good as Costa is, €75m is too much even in the inflated football transfer market.

Let’s hope the club are successful in this quest and do enough to get the Porto man this summer. If that happens, an important department of the squad would get sorted ahead of the start of next season. The process shouldn’t stop though because adding a midfielder and a striker would be key too.
