Manchester United are looking to sign Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford this summer
According to Talksport (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United are eyeing up a summer window move for Everton and England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
The report reveals that Pickford is on top of United’s wishlist ahead of the start of the summer window. Everton may sell him if an offer of around £30m is made.
It is also understood that the Red Devils will sign the England international regardless of whether David de Gea stays at Old Trafford. The latter has come under some severe criticism following a mistake-laden performance against Manchester City in the FA Cup Final.
Pickford was probably Everton’s best player as they avoided relegation by the barest of margins. He kept on making big saves to get the team out of difficult situations. Even in the last game of the season when the Toffees had to beat Bournemouth, the former Sunderland stopped came up with a stunning save to keep his team’s lead intact.
While all that is good, there are certain limitations to his game. The 29-year-old is not very good when asked to play out from the back. He can kick it long but the idea of recruiting him to play in the Erik ten Hag might be a bit of a stretch.
United legend Roy Keane was not too impressed by him after Everton’s defeat to Manchester City a few weeks ago. While it is hard to impress Keane anyway, Pickford to United does not make a lot of sense.
The Red Devils are in the race to sign Porto stopper Diogo Costa. The Portugal international has the tools to become an effective number one in ten Hag system. The club should focus on signing him rather than Pickford.
