Manchester United have increased their interest in Rasmus Hojlund, who plays for Atalanta, ahead of the upcoming transfer window, according to Football Insider (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The Red Devils’ top target to reinforce the attack next summer is Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane. However, the North London side are making it difficult for the Old Trafford side to acquire the English skipper’s services.

Spurs are set to be without European football in the upcoming campaign. The 29-year-old is out of contract at the end of next season and is yet to win a trophy with the Lilywhites.

But if Kane ends up staying at Tottenham, then United will have to make a move for someone else. To that end, Hojlund is being eyed by the Manchester-based club as an alternative, with Erik ten Hag keeping tabs on him.

The Denmark international has broken onto the scene this season. In 33 appearances in all competition for La Dea, the 20-year-old has found the back of the net nine times and has provided four assists.

In the last international break, the youngster also impressed for his national side, scoring a hat-trick against Finland and a brace against Kazakhstan in the European qualifiers.

United’s attack has only two natural strikers as things stand. Anthony Martial has been injury-prone for most of the season. The French national has suffered a spate of fitness issues since Ten Hag’s arrival and is set to miss the FA Cup final against Manchester City due to a knock.

On the other hand, the Burnley loanee has made a number of appearances since joining the club on loan. While his work rate has been admirable, the Holland international is seemingly not up to the Red Devils’ standards.

Therefore, we evidently require heavy investment in our front line in the coming months. But will Hojlund make his way to the Theatre of Dreams to solve our issues? Only time will tell.
