Manchester United are making ‘good progress’ in discussions regarding tying Marcus Rashford down to a new contract, according to The Telegraph (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The England international was set to become a free agent at the end of the season until the Red Devils triggered a one-year extension on his deal in December. However, now, the 25-year-old’s terms are set to expire in the summer of 2024.

Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane is Erik ten Hag’s number one target in the upcoming transfer window. The Manchester-based club are looking to pair the English skipper with Rashford for the upcoming campaign.

The 25-year-old made his way through the youth ranks at United and established himself in the first team in the 2016/17 season. Since then, the winger has been a key player for various managers at the Old Trafford side.

However, in the previous campaign, the England international looked short on confidence. The forward was unable to make an impact and has lost his place in the Red Devils’ starting lineup.

Thankfully, Ten Hag has managed to get the best out of Rashford once again. The 25-year-old has been in electric form since the Dutch manager’s arrival in United’s dugout.

But the gaffer has had to rely on the England international to find the back of the net this season consistently. The forward has shouldered the burden of the Red Devils’ attack, playing on the left wing as well as in the number nine position on multiple occasions.

Kane has been a prolific goalscorer in the Premier League for several years now. The 29-year-old is a world-class striker. But Tottenham have failed to win titles for 14 years now.

Anthony Martial and Wout Weghorst are the only two natural strikers at Ten Hag’s disposal at the moment. Thus, a player like the English skipper would evidently be a great addition at United. Hopefully, Rashford extends his stay at the Old Trafford side and continues to perform.
