Alexi Mac Allister is ‘expected’ to part ways with Brighton & Hove Albion in the upcoming transfer window amidst interest from Manchester United, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.

The Red Devils are one of the clubs in the race to acquire the midfielder’s services. To that end, the Old Trafford side have already held a discussion with the 24-year-old’s representatives regarding the project.

Apart from the Manchester-based club, Premier League rivals Liverpool and Chelsea are also eyeing the Argentina international’s signature. However, the Seagulls are yet to decide on a price tag for him.

Mac Allister joined Brighton in January 2019. Since then, the midfielder has developed and become a key player for the East Sussex-based club.

In the current campaign, the 24-year-old has caught a lot of people’s attention. His performances in the 2022 World Cup were especially impressive.

Argentina went on to lift the prestigious trophy in Qatar. Mac Allister was pivotal to Lionel Sacaloni’s team’s success, providing an assist in the final as La Albiceleste triumphed in the Middle East.

United’s middle of the park was bolstered with the addition of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen last summer. The Brazil and Denmark internationals have featured heavily in Erik ten Hag’s plans this season.

However, in their absence, the Red Devils have lacked a cutting edge in the midfield. While Marcel Sabitzer’s addition to the squad in January has been inspiring, the Austrian is only on loan at the club until the end of the campaign.

Casemiro and Eriksen are also both 31 and are backed up by the likes of Fred and Scott McTominay. Therefore, we could evidently do with some fresh blood in the engine room. Mac Allister has shown his skills at the highest level. Hopefully, a move to the Theatre of Dreams will entice the Argentine.
