Manchester United ‘in contact’ with agent of Valencia shot-stopper Giorgi Mamardashvili
Manchester United are one of the Premier League clubs who have been ‘in contact’ with the agent of Valencia shot-stopper Giorgi Mamardashvili, according to Cope (h/t The Sun).
Apart from the Red Devils, English top-flight rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea have also been in discussions with the Georgia international’s representative, Levan Seturidze, who was in London regarding a move for his client in the upcoming transfer window.
However, the 22-year-old recently signed a new contract with the La Liga outfit. The deal, which was approved in September, includes a release clause worth £87.5 million.
But apart from Spurs and the Blues, Leicester City are also looking to acquire the goalkeeper’s services. As per transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, at the moment, the Foxes are leading the race to sign him.
Mamardashvili made his way to Valencia in the summer of 2021. After playing a backup role last season, the Georgian has become the number one at the Spanish outfit in the current campaign.
The 22-year-old has been impressive for Los Che recently. Even though the Mestalla Stadium side are struggling in La Liga, the shot-stopper has caught a lot of people’s attention with his displays.
Erik ten Hag has counted on David de Gea this season. The Spaniard has made some clutch saves since the arrival of the Dutch manager. The 32-year-old has been in fine form since the previous campaign.
However, the former Atletico Madrid star is backed up by Tom Heaton and Jack Butland. No disrespect, but the two English nationals are not up to the standards of United.

Therefore, we could seemingly do with someone like Mamardashvili in the squad. The 22-year-old has the potential to become a world-class goalkeeper. For now, the Georgian could act as a potential understudy to De Gea.
