Manchester United target Giorgi Mamardashvili coy on his future
Speaking in an interview as quoted by Manchester Evening News, Manchester United target Giorgi Mamardashvili has acknowledged the interest from the Red Devils but insists he is happy to stay at Valencia.
The 21-year-old shot-stopper has been touted as a possible option for Man United who are looking to sign a backup keeper this summer with Dean Henderson leaving the club on loan to Nottingham Forest for the season.
Mamardashvili offers the Red Devils a really interesting option with the talented Georgia keeper just 21 years old. He joined Valencia from Dinamo Tbilisi initially on loan and then on a permanent deal last season.
The talented goalkeeper played 23 times for the Spanish club last season conceding 24 goals and keeping 10 clean sheets across all competitions. These numbers are fairly impressive for a youngster who is just getting his taste of regular first-team football.
There is no doubt who is going to be Man United’s first-choice shot-stopper next season with David de Gea having a firm hold over the spot. He will be hoping to build upon his previous season and put in yet another impressive display.
The Spanish shot-stopper is likely to play every game for Man United next season at least as far as major games are concerned. Any player coming in is only going to be a backup keeper who gets game time sparingly.
At 21, Mamardashvili is at an age where he needs regular game time to develop and he knows he might not get that at Man United. He is fairly established at Valencia and will want to continue in a similar vein.
Speaking about the links, Giorgi Mamardashvili insisted he is happy at Valencia but did not close the door on Man United.
“I see it but, now, the first thing is Valencia, then we’ll see. It is very important for me to be happy and I am happy, I like the team, I like the city.”
