Raphael Varane believes “something really special” brewing at Manchester United
Manchester United star Raphael Varane believes “something really special” is brewing at the club under new manager Erik ten Hag.
The Red Devils have seemingly exceeded expectations since the losses in the first two games of the season in the Premier League. Currently, the Old Trafford side look set to finish in the top four and are also close to getting their hands on some silverware.
Speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News, the France international anticipates good times ahead at United. The 29-year-old also revealed being happy about settling in at the club.
“I love playing, and I was saying the very same thing just the other day to Casemiro. There’s something really special going on here, a real buzz about the place and emotions are running high. I’m really glad that I’ve integrated so well into the team and to my life over here.”
Varane made his way to the Old Trafford side in the summer of 2021 from Real Madrid. In his debut campaign, the defender found life difficult in Manchester.
The Red Devils were not at their best defensively. We failed to live up to expectations and subsequently, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked. Unfortunately, things did not improve much under Ralf Rangnick.
At the end of last season, United missed out on the top four and eventually the Champions League. We also failed to compete meaningfully in any of the cup competitions.
Thankfully, things have turned around in the current campaign. Varane has formed a stable partnership with Lisandro Martinez in the backline. The France and Argentina nationals have been the gaffer’s preferred duo in the defence.
As a result, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have found game time hard to come by. It goes to show the strength in depth the team have in certain areas of the pitch.
